On September 20th 2025, Kids Greening Taupō (KGT) had a 10th birthday party for student leaders and supporters and Korio was pleased to have been invited to join in the celebrations. As part of the original team that established Greening Taupō under the strategic leadership of Project Tongariro, Kim was actively involved in the setup of conservation education programme in local schools providing assistance behind the scenes including website design and build and marketing & communications planning and implementation. And to suport the student led philosophy, Kim also made herself available for students who had an interest in marketing and websites with some mentoring and learning seminars.
We celebrated this anniversary at Spa Park, the original launch site of the programme back in 2015. Current student leaders supported the day’s celebrations by leading activities, and we enjoyed reconnecting with past student leaders to learn where their environmental journeys have taken them.
Over the years, KGT has grown from an education programme focused on native planting into something much bigger. Of course, they still plant plenty of native trees, and they are passionate about teaching the importance of restoring habitats to bring back native biodiversity. Today, the programme branches out into a wide range of experiences and learning opportunities.
