Is your marketing plan collecting dust? We’re using AI to do something about it.
Asking the Right Question
Marketing has changed a lot over the years, but the fundamentals haven’t.
Businesses still need to know who they are, who they’re talking to, and how to connect in a way that actually means something. The challenge isn’t understanding that, it’s doing it consistently, especially in a world where the tools, platforms, and expectations keep evolving.
At Korio, that’s what we focus on.
We’re a Taupō-based digital and creative business and we work alongside businesses, organisations, and not-for-profits to make marketing more practical, more effective and a whole lot less overwhelming. From strategy and planning through to websites, content, and digital advertising, our goal is simple: help our clients turn good ideas into meaningful action.
With over 20 years of experience in the digital space, our approach has always been grounded in real-world application. We care about the big picture, but we also care about how things actually get done day to day. And we believe good marketing doesn’t need to be complicated to make an impact.
But like many agencies, we started to feel the pressure of a fast-changing landscape. Managing multiple clients, multiple platforms, and an ever-growing list of tools was becoming more complex. And while AI was clearly part of the future, figuring out how to use it in a way that genuinely added value, not just noise, wasn’t straightforward.
So we started asking a different question:
How can we use AI to make what we already do better, faster, and more consistently?
The Challenge: When Good Marketing Gets Stuck
“We’ve got a marketing plan… now what?”
If you’ve ever invested in a marketing strategy, you’ll probably recognise this: you get a beautifully written plan. It says all the right things. And then… it sits there on the shelf, collecting dust. We see this all the time. Businesses know they need marketing, but translating a plan into consistent, day-to-day activity is where things often fall over.
Over the years, we’ve seen a pattern:
Marketing plans that costs thousands of dollars to develop, but sit on the shelf collecting dust
Uncertainty around what to actually do next
Tools that promise the world, but don’t actually deliver
Content being created, but not always connecting
Plenty of our clients have come to us at various stages of this marketing saga looking for a solution. And over time we’ve developed our own approach to ‘doing’ the marketing. A deep understanding of those ‘principles of marketing’ plus years (and years) of experience with small to medium size businesses has allowed us to refine that approach. We developed the audience messaging matrix so that we could dust off that marketing plan and apply it on every piece of content we produce so that work that was done is not wasted sitting on a shelf but expertly applied throughout all marketing.
As we developed our approach, and the business grew we knew we needed a system to keep us on track and accountable to the marketing plan. We were early adopters of AI tools, and while they helped in some areas, they also created new inefficiencies - more logins, more copy and paste, more moving between platforms.
It became clear that using lots of tools wasn’t the answer. We needed a better overall way of working.
The Turning Point: Making AI Work for Us
We knew AI was going to change our industry. But the spectrum between having a chat with AI and leveraging it to maximum value for your business is pretty wide. It’s a whole new world, it’s changing at such a fast pace and keeping up with it is a full time job in itself. It was becoming a long way out of the comfort zone and it was becoming harder and harder to know who to trust in this space. But then a quote by Simon Sinek - “The opportunity for creativity begins the moment we don’t know what we’re doing” and attending an AI workshop but our local economic growth agency (shout out to Amplify Taupō) landed the a-ha moment.
The Solution: Building Something That Fits
After trying a lot of off-the-shelf tools (and there are plenty of good ones out there), we realised none of them quite did what we needed. We knew we would have to build some things bespoke, something that would work how we work, and we knew that AI would play a part. Enter stage left, Incredible Software - a New Zealand-based business, building AI powered custom solutions. They work across the globe, yet manage to stay locally focused, and bring the know-how and values needed to be a trustworthy partner.
AI isn’t going anywhere, but neither are the fundamentals of good marketing. For us, the opportunity isn’t just in using AI. It’s in using it in a way that strengthens what already works. By combining proven principle, and our unique audience messaging matrix, with the right technology, we’re working hard to build a way of working that’s more efficient, more scalable, and more aligned with the results we want to achieve.
And ultimately, that’s what matters - marketing that doesn’t just look good on paper, but actually works in the real world.
